1Q84 by Haruki Murakami

Murakami Haruki has always been a prolific writer. His stories are filled with fiction and surrealism. Until now, his best work might be one of his latest works "1Q84".

Synopsis

The whole story is set in Tokyo, Japan (1984). The Book is divided into three parts: Part 1 (April & June), Part 2 (July & September) and Part 3 (October & December).
It all starts when Aomame takes a Taxi to her Job. As the Taxis drives down the Highway, Aomame is caught in thoughts and later in a strange conversation with the Driver.
At this point, the traffic gets worse and Aomame seems to not be able to make it on time. The Driver suggests that she could take a small emergency exit on the highway. At the same time, the driver warns her that climbing down that emergency exit might changer all her reality. Thanks to the advice, she makes it on time to get her job done, which is to kill a Hotel Guest.
After she killed the hotel guest, she takes a walk and notices that the world has somewhat changed. She notices that policeman use different guns. When she reads a newspaper and sees two moons in the sky she notices that she is not anymore in the normal World 1984 but in the Fictional World "1Q84".
“It’s a Barnum and Bailey world, / just as phony as it can be, / But it wouldn’t be make-believe / if you believed in me.”

In the next chapter, Tengo is introduced. He is a writer for a magazine. He writes casually and makes a living that way. One day, his good friend and writer Komatsu asks him to rewrite one of the most promising and awkward books he has ever read in order to submit it to a literary price.
The book is titled "Air Chrysalis" and was written by Fuka-Eri (a High school Student). As Tengo spends time with Fuka-Eri, he notices that she is dyslexic and that she couldn't have written the book by herself. He feels uncomfortable because all this is illegal and could just bring him more trouble.
Fuka-Eri's story is a combination of "Small People" and a village that rapes "Young Girls" systematically. What is even more intriguing is that the story doesn't seem to be all fiction but has happened for real.
A whole investigation parts from there. Both Aomame and Tengo investigate the fragments they encounter separately. As the story progresses, Aomame and Tengo start to remember each other from the past.  Both want to find each other and share the love they have for each other. In order to do so, they have to solve the mysterious case of Fuka Eri, the awkward village and find a way out of "1Q84".
