A Japan Society is an organization in a city that offers all sort Japan related services. Normally, they have a Japanese Library, Lessons, teacher, exchange programs, info, etc. The organization is usually funded by Japan and is somewhat larger building. They are mainly in capitals and big cities.

These events can be concerts, theater plays, Japanese guests, etc. They also have information about Japanese restaurants and places you can visit in your city.
Sometimes at the entrance they put a box with free (second-hand) novels in Japanese.
