Golden week is Japan's busiest Holiday season. In one week, Japan celebrates four National holidays.

Many Japanese offices close for the entire week and most of the people travel, relax and celebrate during this week.
April 29 => Showa Day (昭和の日 Shōwa no Hi). This is the birthday of the former Emperor Showa (April 29, 1901 – January 7, 1989)
May 3 => Constitution Memorial Day (憲法記念日 Kenpō Kinenbi)
May 4 => Greenery Day (みどりの日 Midori no Hi). This is a national day dedicated to the nature and to commemorate the birth of Emperor Showa who loved Nature.
May 5 => Children's Day (こどもの日 Kodomo no Hi). This day is also known as the Boy's Festival. It celebrates the boys personalities and their families pray for the health and success of their sons. On this day, families also usually raise carp shaped koinobori flags (The Chinese legend says that the carp that swims upstream becomes a dragon).

During this week, airports are filled and the Shinkansen (bullet train) network is at 200% of its capacity. Manga readers hate this week because the Mangaka (manga drawer) take the week off but it is a good chance to update the entire anime, manga, light novel and figure goods. Akihabara is filled and sales grow exponentially in Akihabara as well as throughout Japan. It is one of the busiest shopping periods of the year in Japan.
Try to find a Cheap Flight for this week to visit Japan and enjoy it at its fullest.

What to do during Golden Week ?

1) Traveling might be your best option. Discover new places and try new things. Join the millions Japanese travelers.
2) Participate in the variety of events. Golden Week is filled with festival, events, concerts, overfilled parties and clubs.
3) Visit a Temple/Shrine. There are a lot of temples/shrines in Japan (more than 80,000). During Golden Week these temples/shrines are filled with visitors. Take your time and find a nice hidden one ;)
