Tokyo offers a great variety of things to do. In this list, I tried to put the top 10 things to do in Tokyo. These places are definitely worth your time.
1) Tsukiji Fish Market
Tsukiji Fish Market is located a few minutes walking from Ginza. It is one of the most expensive plots of land in the world as well as the largest Fish Market in the World.
2) Golden Gai
The Golden Gai is a small area jam packed with classic Japanese Bars in Shinjuku. It is a famous place for celebrities in Tokyo such as Writers, Directors and Actors. Due to the high level customers, not all bars are tourist friendly. Many bar owners are honored by their clients and don't serve just anyone. The style of the streets is comparable to a 1960 Tokyo. Just Awesome.
3) Ryōgoku Kokugikan
Japan is famous for their Sumo Fights. Tokyo’s National Sumo Hall holds the most important fights and is definetly worth of your time. Make sure to inform yourself about the events and how to get there: Tokyo National Sumo Hall
4) Mount Fuji
Mount Fuji is with 3776 meters (12,388 ft) Japan’s highest mountain. It has been worshiped and featured in many different arts throughout the centuries ranging from paintings and Novels to Music and Plays. Although mount Fuji is not in Tokyo, you can take a train and enjoy a one day visit. You can climb it if you are experienced as well.
5) Shibuya
Shibuya is the center of Japanese fashion, culture and pretty much anything you can imagine. In Shibuya you will find young Girls and Boys. You will find the world's most crowded Street Crossing. The best time to visit it is at night when all the neon lights are on and the people are walking literally everywhere.
6) Meiji Shrine
The Meiji Shrine is dedicated to the Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken. You can access the Shrine, which is surrounded by a large park, from several points. You can walk from Yoyogi Station, Kita-Sando Station, Sangubashi Station, Yoyogi Koen Station and Harajuku Station to the Shrine. The shrine is very spacious and perfect for walks.
7) Akihabara District
Akihabara has always been well known for its electronic variety. Today we know it in the west more commonly as an Anime/Manga/Gaming heaven. Akihabara is filled with technology, Anime, Manga, Arcades, Games, Restaurants and much more. This is also the perfect place to buy Duty-Free Technology.
8) Sensoji Temple
Sensoji Temple (Sensō-ji) is the oldest temple in Tokyo. It was founded in 628. On the temple grounds, you will usually find a great variety of small restaurants and a great selection of Japanese Food and entertainment. Definitely Worth a trip.
9) Metropolitan Government Building
The Metropolitan Government Building houses the Tokyo Metropolitan Government which governs all 23 wards and all the cities, villages and towns that make up Tokyo. The Government Building is located in Shinjuku and has two Observation Decks at 202 Meters height. The entrance is free and you will get one of the most spectacular views of Tokyo from there.
10) Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden
The Shinjuku Gyoen is one of the most beautiful gardens in Tokyo. It is 58 hectares big and has a French Garden, an English Garden, a Traditional Japanese Garden and a Japanese Tea House as well as wide green spaces for recreation. You can walk hours there and the colors are just great in spring. The garden was featured in Kotonoha no Niwa ("Garden of the Words").
